Photo exhibition
Friends of FAI is an American public charity that
promotes cultural and fundraising activities on
behalf of FAI - The National Trust of Italy,
within the United States. Funds raised by Friends
of FAI are designated for specific projects of
acquisition, restoration, and preservation of
Italian monuments and environmental landmarks.
Casa Italiana will host an exhibit of some of the
most beautiful and interesting restored
properties of FAI’s. Titled A Museum Called
Italy, this show presents pictures from the
Monastero di Torba, one FAI’s first acquisitions
(1977), to Villa dei Vescovi, one of the most
recent (2005). This exhibit documents a part of
the great artistic and architectural heritage
saved by FAI and Friends of FAI. Additionally, it
gives the public and opportunity to explore a
variety of Italian art and architecture. This
exhibit will contribute to the American knowledge
and appreciation of the Italian cultural heritage
and Friends of FAI, a Foundation already well established in Italy.
On the occasion of this exhibit, there will be
the inaugural lecture: Villa dei Vescovi, an example
of Pre-Palladian villa, by Prof. Francesco
Benelli (History of Architecture, Columbia University).
The focus of the lecture is the early XVI Villa
dei Vescovi in the Veneto that has been of great
inspiration for Palladio's work. This Villa shows
(for the first time in the Veneto) the tradition
of Quattrocento Florentine suburban Medicean
villas, as well the influence of the ancient roman villa.
Marco Magnifico, CEO of FAI, and Luigi Moscheri,
President of Friends of FAI, will present an
overview of the most recently restored FAI properties.
