Von Lintel Gallery is pleased to ann=ounce an exhibition of new work
by Japanese photographer Izima Kaoru. These photographs extend the
fantasy theme Kaoru explored in his prior series.
Landscapes with a Corpse. Here, in his newest work, the artist has
pushed his intense color even further to include full-blown psychedelic
scenarios as well as scenes of stark drama with the graphic punch of
whit e on black. His cinematic compositions and dreamlike mystery
are as strong = as ever.
Kaoru continues his practice of orchestrating fashion models
imagined deaths for the camera, recording each scene from various
vantage points and distances. Some shots, panoramic and taken from
oblique angles, empha size the lonely and anonymous aspect of death.
Others, nearly filled by models'faces, zero in on the purely
personal, making the 'victims' appear more naked and
vulnerable fully clothed than they might be nude. All the pictures
deliver a poignant and concentrated dose of Izima's signature
sensation: tragedy overwhelmed by beauty.
Izima Kaoru has exhibited widely in the United States and Europe, and
is represented in numerous public and private collections
internationally. This is his fourth solo exhibition with Von Lintel
Gallery.
