The first round of these collective video screenings took place last year in KargArt
exhibition hall under the title of "Opposite Concept"; the 2nd International Video
Festival will take place this year between February 21 and 28 in the same place and
with the organization of Irmak Arkman and Gözde İlkin. The main aim of this
international video festival, organized this year under the title "Courier", is to
liberate the video-artists from the constraints imposed by exhibition venues and art
galleries and create a space in which they can freely exhibit their works and feel
on equal footing with the other artists. Hence, by way of using the concept of
"Courier", the festival develops a stance in opposition to the distinction between
being chosen and being the chooser brought on by the workings of the system of
curators and galleries. The videos posted from all over the world are exhibited
without being subjected to any kind of selective process; thus the organization
claims that video is a mobile and portable contemporary art form and thanks to this
portability, needs couriers more than it needs curators.
In this context, the
organization aims at realizing a traveling festival and a wide video archive in the
near future in order to make sure that all the works are circulated between various
locations and made available to a larger and more diverse audience and to establish
the first independent video platform in Turkey. The closing party of the
festival will take place on March 1st in Studio Live; the doors will open at 21:30.
Hazhavuzu (PleasurePool) Performance Group consisting of Güçlü Öztekin, Güneş
Terkol, Özgür Erkök, Mert Öztekin, Erhan Özışıklı, Levent Aygül, Emir Özel, Deniz
Ulusoy and İnci Furni will give a small concert following their performance entitled
"Photo-Karaoke" and the rest of the night will be devoted to the screening of the
festival videos.
