The Contemporary Art Society’s Annual Selling Exhibition

Established in 1984, ARTfutures highlights the best of emerging contemporary art being created today. With a strong track record in spotting talented young artists as they begin their careers, ARTfutures offers the contemporary art collector a unique one-stop shop for acquiring works by the stars of tomorrow. A thorough selection process involving hundreds of studio visits by a team of independent curators, will result in around 1,000 works being showcased in a specially curated exhibition at Bloomberg SPACE from 8 March 2007. With most prices ranging from £500 to £5,000, buyers can acquire works by 120 emerging artists who are seen to be producing some of the most collectible and cutting edge work being made today.
Artists whose early work was featured in ARTfutures include Sam Taylor Wood, Antony Gormley and Damien Hirst. In 2004, Alexandre da Cunha showed several sculptures at ARTfutures and less than twelve months later, his work was bought at the Frieze Art Fair for Tate. Mark Titchner, a 2006 Turner Prize nominee, contributed to the 2004 edition of ARTfutures. Katy Moran, who participated in ARTfutures 2005, had a solo show at Modern Art in London in October 2006, while Heather and Ivan Morrison, also 2005 artists, have been selected for the Welsh Pavilion at the 2007 Venice Biennale.

Alongside works by relatively unknown artists, ARTfutures also presents a limited number of pieces by established artists who took part in past editions of ARTfutures or have worked with the Contemporary Art Society. In 2005, carefully selected works by Liam Gillick, Langlands and Bell, Catherine Yass and Gavin Turk were on sale. First-time buyers and experienced collectors visiting the fair will find advice and support available from curators and experts from the Contemporary Art Society, who are on-hand to offer information and guidance.
Organised annually by the Contemporary Art Society and supported by Bloomberg, ARTfutures benefits both the artists whose work is sold and the Contemporary Art Society (an independent charity) in its work purchasing key pieces of contemporary art for museums around the UK.
