Film Festival
Six days of inspiration and celebration, showcasing the best women filmmakers from around the world. Highlights include: a stunning programme of international feature premieres – from the highly acclaimed (Shut Up & Sing: Oscar winning Barbara Kopple's feature doc about the Dixie Chicks and free speech, Sherrybaby starring Golden Globe nominated Maggie Gyllenhaal, Cult Indie actress Sarah Polley's directorial debut Away From Her starring Julie Christie, Christina Comencini's nominee for Best Foreign Language Film Oscar Don't Tell) to the unsung gem (I am (Poland), Molly's Way (Germany), and Ecoutes Le Temps – a sinister French psycho-thriller), with many directors in attendance; specially commissioned live music from cutting edge female musicians Errolyn Wallen and Seaming To to early surrealist silent film at the Barbican; dynamic programmes of international short films & documentaries; and a partnership with ActionAid showing films by women from developing countries.
This year the festival also boasts a programme of training workshops for emerging women filmmakers in screenwriting, networking, distribution & steadicam, and the chance to have tea with the filmmakers. Plus VJing workshop, fine art to film forum, and a panel of music video makers. Oh, and a couple of cracking parties.
