A raft built of 2001 logs will be floated from the heart of Europe all the way to Rotterdam. European artists travelling with the raft tell tales of the past, present and future of Europe. Along the way the raft will moor at 20 European cities to participate in cultural programme. In this way the raft picks up pieces of European history as it floats downstream.

The Wilhelminapier in Rotterdam will be the raft’s 21st and final mooring point on 4
August. The grand final will take place on the promontory at Rozenburg. Here the
‘Performing musicians’ of Urban Sax will put on a spectacular water show and there
will be a staging of the never-before performed play Benito Cereno by Gaston
Salvatore. The raft will be deconstructed afterwards and the logs will be used to
construct the Starsite landmark. The logs will be decorated by young European
artists and placed in the shape of the European star. A seedling will be planted next
to each decorated log. The new trees form a wood with ‘old’ memories.
