Il Parlamento europeo condanna gli attentati perpetrati negli Stati Uniti

In seguito agli orribili attentati terroristici perpetrati negli Stati Uniti, l'On. Nicole Fontaine, Presidente del Parlamento europeo, ha deciso di convocare una riunione straordinaria della Conferenza dei Presidenti, cui parteciperanno tutti i parlamentari europei.

Il Parlamento europeo intende presentare, al termine di tale riunione, un comunicato concernente i tragici avvenimenti che hanno colpito gli Stati Uniti

Seguiranno le dichiarazioni del Prof. Romano Prodi, Presidente della Commissione europea e Guy Verhofstadt, Presidente in carica del Consiglio e quelle dei gruppi politici che formano il Parlamento europeo.

La Conferenza dei presidenti si svolgerà nell'emiciclo del Parlamento europeo a Bruxelles alle 17 di oggi e verrà diffusa in diretta su Europe by Satellite (EbS) nelle undici lingue ufficiali dell'Unione europea.

In Italia la diretta verrà trasmessa dalla RAI, dalle reti Mediaset e da alcune reti locali e regionali.

DICHIARAZIONE della PRESIDENTE del PARLAMENTO EUROPEO

NICOLE FONTAINE "INFINIMENT BOULEVERSEE ET INDIGNEE PAR LES ATTENTATS TERRORISTES DE NEW-YORK ET WASHINGTON

Dans une première réaction aux dramatiques attentats commis aujourd'hui à New-York et à Washington par les terroristes, la Présidente du Parlement européen, en visite à Rome, a déclaré:
"En l'état actuel des informations dont nous disposons, je ne peux que réagir dans l'émotion pour dire à quel point je suis infiniment bouleversée et indignée par les images qui nous parviennent de New-York et de Washington.
Je tiens à exprimer toute ma solidarité ainsi quema profonde tristesse au peuple américain et à assurer le Président George W. Bush que les Européens sont à ses côtés dans les heures dramatiques que vit ce grand pays démocratique. En ces instants d'horreur absolue mes premières pensées vont vers les victimes et leurs familles.
Nous ne connaissons pas pour l'instant les auteurs de ces actes de barbarie. Pour moi il s'agit de personnes qui nient le genre humain et le droit à la vie sous le prétexte de faire triompher leurs intérêts. Face à ce malheur j'espère de tout mon coeur que la communauté internationale se révélera, mieux que par le passé, apte à répondre aux défis de ceux qui veulent détruire toute notion de civilisation".

DICHIARAZIONE della COMMISSIONE AFFARI ESTERI, DIRITTI DELL'UOMO, SICUREZZA COMUNE E POLITICA DI DIFESA del PARLAMENTO EUROPEO

The Foreign Affairs Committee has learned with shock and sorrow of the atrocious terrorist attack in the USA.

We join Our colleagues in the US Congress and all American people in their deep sorrow and stan united with them in solidarity. The terrorist act is directed against the entire international community of democracies and their citizens.

We stand together with the USA in the fight against international terrorism.

At the same time, we shoul develop a joint policy of all democracies against any state hiding or supporting terrorism and we should aim to overcome together the most burning conflicts in the world.

No political reason justifies terrorism.

Attacks in US reinforce need for greater co-operation in fight against terrorism

The horrific attacks on the United States today clearly demonstrate the need for closer international co-operation in the fight against terrorism, Graham WATSON (UK, ELDR), chairman of the European Parliament's Committee on Citizens' Freedoms and Rights, Justice and Home Affairs said oday in a reaction to terrorist attacks on public buildings in New York and Washington. Mr Watson was deeply shocked and strongly condemned the attacks. He expressed his sympathy with the victims and their families.
Only last week Parliament adopted a report by Mr Watson, expressing deep concern at the growing number of terrorist attacks and calling for greater action to combat terrorism, including the introduction of a European search and arrest warrant.
"It is now evident", Mr Watson said, "that not only the EU Member States should step up action to combat terrorism, but that there should also be closer co-operation with other states in order to try and prevent such barbaric attacks in future. Attacks like this are of concern to all democrats and I urge the EU institutions to step up security measures."
