Fondazione Poletti presenta in occasione di Cornice Art Fair, della quale è main sponsor, un progetto speciale dell'artista Stefano Cagol. E' un intervento d'arte pubblica dal titolo 'Head Flu' che attraverso due enormi sfere bianche nel cielo sopra Tronchetto innesca con ironia i meccanismi della propaganda per far riflettere sulle influenze che ci condizionano. Il progetto, che parte con l'inaugurazione di Cornice, prosegue poi per un mese fino al 5 luglio.

All'interno di Cornice Fondazione Poletti presenterà anche una delle ultime opere video di Stefano Cagol dal titolo 'Dark & Light. Stars & Stripes': è l'ultima versione della serie dedicata al simbolo fortissimo della bandiera americana, presentato nella lettura indubbiamente più riuscita nell'arte degli ultimi anni, dove questa icona diventa sorprendentemente fluttuante tra diversi e opposti significati, ma sempre riconoscibile. Fondazione Poletti ha inoltre chiesto all'artista di realizzare un'installazione permanente di opere all'in terno del nuovo edificio del Gruppo Poletti a Tronchetto, adiacente alla struttura di Cornice, dove sarà collocato uno dei palloni. All'artista sarà quindi dedicata una dinner reception nella VIP Lounge di Cornice dove Fondazione Poletti espone una selezione di importanti opere del '900 della sua collezione, da Burrri a Warhol.

L'intervento

Sfere bianche s'innalzano nel cielo della città d'acqua. Grandi, visibili, ma al tempo stesso fluttuanti, vuote, sospese. 'Head', testa, e 'Flu', influenza. L'influenza della testa sembrerebbe invocare uno spirito di riflessività, ma dall'altro lato la parola 'Head', testa, individua un pallone, un pallone gonfiato, una zucca vuota, e quindi vuol dire tutto il contrario di ragionevolezza. E il binomio appare critico, ironico.

Come ideali punti di sospensione lasciano aperta l'interpretazione dell'osservatore, come fa una serie di spille distribuite viralmente. Questo è infatti l'altro strumento tipico della propaganda utilizzato anche nei precedenti lavori di Cagol. Le spille, con scritta nera su fondo bianco come i palloni, attraverso una successione di binomi esprimono le influenze che ci dominano nel momento attuale: bomb flu, pussy flu, bird flu, art flu, mind flu, techno flu, ass flu, media flu, beauty flu, head flu...

L'intervento d'arte pubblica Head Flu di Stefano Cagol a Venezia affronta il concetto di influenza – fisica e mentale, positiva e negativa – in una società attuale in cui i baricentri e gli ordini di valore sono alterati. Lo fa evocando bolle e punti di potere attraverso un gioco di parole che diviene un tutt'uno con l'utilizzo delle modalità proprie della 'propaganda'. Questo progetto s'inserisce nel suo recente percorso di ricerca sviluppato attraverso l'installazione in Auguststrasse alla Biennale di Berlino, e l'intervento satellite alla Biennale di Singapore.

Location

L'area di Tronchetto è la porta d'ingresso a Venezia, accessibile sia in macchina che in barca. Ci sono frequenti corse del trasporto pubblico da tutte le aree di Venezia e dalla terraferma. Inoltre un servizio shuttle di motoscafi collega continuamente Cornice Art Fair a Tronchetto e la Biennale.

L'artista

Stefano Cagol, nato a Trento nel 1969, ha studiato all'Accademia di Brera e alla Ryerson University di Toronto. Tra i suoi impegni del 2007, in ottobre tiene una personale da Priska Juschka Fine Art a New York, in aprile una personale da NADiff – New Art Diffusion a Tokyo. Le sue opere sono inoltre in mostra nel 2007 al National Museum of Art di Hanoi per 'Tendencies of contemporary research', a New Delhi alla National Gallery per 'The Edge of Vision', a Brussels al Beurs Schowburg, a Kunst Merano Arte per 'Fromandto'.

Nel 2006 ha realizzato un off-project alla Biennale di Singapore e alla Biennale di Berlino e partecipato a 'Zoo Logical Garden' all'Harry Malter Park di Ghent, nel 2005 ha tenuto una personale a Roma da Oredaria ed esposto alla Lombard Freid Gallery di New York, nel 2004 ha esposto a New York alla Stefan Stux Gallery e alla Luxe Gallery, nel 2000 ha tenuto una personale al Mart – Museo di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto, nel 1997 ha partecipato a 'Generazione Media' alla Triennale di Milano e nel 1996 a 'Videoforum' a Art'96 Basel.

Fondazione Poletti, main sponsor of Cornice Art Fair, is proud to present a special project by Italian artist Stefano Cagol. It's a public art intervention titled 'Head Flu': two enormous white spheres in the sky over the Tronchetto use with irony the ways of propaganda to make reflect on influences that guide us.

The project, that will start in occasion of Cornice, will continue for one month until July 5th. Inside Cornice, Fondazione Poletti will present also one of last video works by Cagol titled 'Dark & Light. Stars & Stripes': it's the last version of the series dedicated to the strong symbol of American flag and is for sure the most interesting work about this flag of these years, where the icon becomes incredibly fluctuant in between different and opposite meanings, but always present.

Fondazione Poletti has asked Cagol to realize a permanent installation of his works inside the new building of Gruppo Poletti, that is located at Tronchetto really close to Cornice and where one of the balloons will be. Then a dinner reception in the VIP Lounge of Cornice will be dedicated to the artist: in the VIP Lounge Fondazione Poletti will exhibit also a selection of important works of last Century of its collection, from Burri to Warhol.

The project

White spheres rise in the sky of the water town – big, visible, but at the same time fluctuating, void, suspended. 'Head', and 'Flu', influenza, influence. Head flu, influence of the head seems to entreat a moment of meditation. On the other hand, the word 'Head' detects a balloon, an inflated balloon, an empty pumpkin, which shows the opposite of reasonableness. So the association appears critical, ironical.

As ideal points of suspension, they allow for an open interpretation of the observer, as much as a series of badges virally distributed. This is in fact the other typical tool of propaganda, also used in previous artworks by Cagol. The badges, with a black writing on a white background like the balloons, through a sequence of associations, show the influences that direct us at the moment: bomb flu, pussy flu, bird flu, art flu, mind flu, techno flu, ass flu, media flu, beauty flu, head flu...

Stefano Cagol's public art intervention Head Flu in Venice faces the concept of – physical and mental, positive and negative – influenza / influence on a society in which centers of gravity and orders of value are altered. He succeeds by evoking bubbles and power points through a word game that become all one with the use of modalities typical of 'propaganda'. This project is part of his recent in-depth research developed with the installation in Auguststrasse at the Berlin Biennale, and with the satellite intervention at the Singapore Biennale.

Location

The Tronchetto area is the gateway to Venice, accessible by boat or by car. There are also very frequent public transport services from all areas of Venice and from the mainland. A boat shuttle service runs continuously between Cornice Art Fair at Tronchetto and the Biennale.

The artist
