Blood On The Streets
We are excited to present David Griggs first show with Uplands Gallery. Sydney-based
Griggs created the works in Blood on the Streets during his Artspace studio
residency in Sydney earlier this year.
Griggs was born aboard a Lockheed Hercules, somewhere above the north coast of
Australia in 1975. In 1993, he worked for an underground newspaper, photographing
the poverty of northern India and Nepal. Then while travelling in China in 1996, he
suffered a near death experience and has dedicated himself to producing paintings
ever since.
Over the past two years, Griggs has been working on and off in Manila, Philippines.
Three of his recent exhibitions have directly related to his time spent in the Asian
city, and the works in this show are a further development.
Recently, he has been included in Primavera and the inaugural TarraWarra Painting
Biennial Parallel Lives: Australian Art Today, held the solo exhibitions The
Bleeding Hearts Club at Kaliman Gallery, and Exchanging Culture for Flesh at AGNSW,
and been selected as a finalist in the Archibald Prize with his self-portrait The
Bleeding Heart Club No. 1. New paintings will feature in the upcoming Regarding Fear
and Hope curated by Victoria Lynn at MUMA.
To enter the building press 3 on the keypad followed by the button with the image of
a ‘key’ on it (located in the same place the # key is on your phone). Wait for the
