Pavlov's Lab and Other Rooms

Performances associated with the exhibition

July 28th, 2007, 9 p.m.
Performance lupus humanus with Nora Somaini at magnus muller in collaboration with Katharina Eckerfeld, Stephan Korves, Anja Jacobsen and Daniel Jeroma.
A reflex differs from a decision, it occurs before thinking happens. It occurs in the here and now, unconsciously, naturally. Since Dr. Pavlov's experimentation with the dogs in his laboratory, the secret of conditionable reflexes were known. Every one is familiar with the reactions of the salivating dogs to the sound of the ringing of the famous bell. When we are conditioned we function like these dogs. The more we believe in our liberty and self-fullfilment, the easier it is to manipulate our reflexes from the outside. Although our thinking is supposed to be free, do we really have „free“ reflexes? These thoughts serve as the subject matter for our small performance.“ (Nora Somaini)
