Galvanised Sculptures. He has played a pivotal role in the history of twentieth-century sculpture. His 'breakthrough' sculptures of the early sixties took sculptures off their pedestals and placed them directly in the viewer's space. His radical approach freed up the subject matter of sculpture and has been an example to other American and European sculptors including Serra, Cragg, Flanagan and Solano.
