AMERICAN CINEMATHEQUE: Established in 1981, the American Cinematheque is a
non-profit, viewer-supported film exhibition and cultural organization
dedicated to the celebration of the Moving Picture in all its forms. The
Cinematheque presents film and video programming which ranges from the
classics and world cinemas to the outer frontiers of the art form.
Exhibition of rare works, special prints within our series, etc. are a
Cinematheque tradition that keep the avid film lover coming back for
once-in-a-lifetime cinema experiences. We also treat our audiences to
fascinating post-screening discussions with the filmmakers who created the
work. In 2000, the Cinematheque launched its own DVD and video label,
"American Cinematheque Presents," to broaden the availability of its
critically acclaimed programming. In Fall 2001 EVERYTHING PUT TOGETHER and
AUDITION will be the labels first two new theatrical releases. The American
Cinematheque owns and operates the historic 1922 Egyptian Theatre on
Hollywood Boulevard. The building has won every major preservation award
since the completion of its renovation in 1998. Cinematheque is pronounced
"Cinema-tech" like discotheque not "Cinema-teek."
