Two solo shows

Tracy Williams, Ltd. is pleased to announce two new exhibitions by New York artist, Richard Dupont. In addition to his second exhibition of new sculpture and drawings at the gallery, Dupont is producing a large-scale installation for the Lever House Lobby Gallery opening in February through April 2008.

Richard Dupont's use of his own body and the sculptural investigation of actual and virtual spaces have governed his artistic practice since 2000. Dupont has increasingly involved a 3D computer model of himself as the conceptual support for his installations. Making reference to the history of anthropometry, and the increasing deployment of biometrics in contemporary life, this digital facsimile was pieced together from 3D scans of the artist's body. Stripped of identity, the model exists as a dense collection of data, and represents a general or collective body. This model serves as Dupont's raw material, and has been the basis for works in a variety of media including sculpture, drawing, digital animation, and printmaking. Assuming the role of the scientist/engineer, Dupont's digital and procedural manipulations of his own body can be interpreted as metaphorical actions which make reference to 'a self' under the influence of vast systems of power and control.

For both the gallery exhibition and the Lever House installation, Dupont will emphasize his deep engagement with materials and process, as well as the performative aspect of his practice. These elaborate spatial and material arrangements convey a rich variety of associations--historical, social, and cultural, and engage both the existing context and the spectator's body in a complex spatial and psychological interchange.

The Lever House installation was conceived as a site specific public sculpture which will investigate the competing aspects and conditions of public and private space- of surveillance and the voyeuristic.

Richard Dupont's work is in numerous public and private collections, including, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the New York Public Library.
