Generacion 2008

La Casa Encendida, Madrid

The exhibition presents the latest trends in young Spanish art

comunicato stampa

The programme, which this year celebrates its ninth edition, was created by Obra Social Caja Madrid to discover and promote the work of young plastic artists amongst the general public, specialised critics and professionals in the Spanish arts sector. In its consecutive editions, Generaciones has become one of the most important references in the dissemination of emerging art, both nationally and on a European scale, offering a valuable panorama of the upcoming trends in Spanish contemporary creation.

The exhibition can be visited at La Casa Encendida until 23 March next and will then travel to a number Spanish cities: Valencia, Valladolid, Barcelona and Seville. Furthermore, the six projects awarded GENERACIÓN 2008 scholarships are to be exhibited in the 2009 edition of ARCO, an environment which guarantees these young artists obtain the maximum projection for their work. Obra Social Caja Madrid completes the dissemination of the project by editing a bilingual catalogue, which constitutes the most important means of presentation for the participating artists.

The multi-disciplinary exhibition presents a broad panorama of young Spanish creation. Its works transmit the concerns and worries that stir the artists and reflect the world of today. Photography, painting, sculpture, video and installations are some of the supports used by the creators of this generation, creators who question the spectator about the problems of today’s world and encourage them to widen their horizons.

GENERACIÓN 2008. Caja Madrid Art Awards and Scholarships has two juries, one for each category, commissioned to select the works and projects.

The members of the Awards Jury were Aurora García, Exhibition Commissioner; Bartomeu Mari, Head Curator of the MACBA; Yolanda Romero, Director of the José Guerrero Centre in Granada; Guillermo Solana, Head Curator of the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum and Valentín Vallhonrat, artist.

The Scholarship Jury members were: Ferrán Barenblit, Director of the Santa Mónica Centre in Barcelona; Alicia Chillida, Commissioner; Rafael Doctor, Director of the Castilla y León Museum of Contemporary Art, MUSAC; Javier Montes, Art Critic and Carlos Urroz, Commissioner and Cultural Agent.
