La galleria Maze, in collaborazione con la galleria Monitor, è lieta di presentare il nuovo progetto di Rä di Martino.
La prima personale torinese dell’artista coincide infatti con il primo degli appuntamenti con cui Maze inaugura una nuova veste fatta di contaminazione e dialogo con altre gallerie, curatori ed artisti con un taglio internazionale ed inedito per il panorama italiano.
Per lo spazio della galleria, Rä di Martino ha concepito un’installazione a due schermi in cui l’analisi degli elementi del linguaggio cinematografico si sposa con le componenti squisitamente ironiche e surreali che sono da sempre la cifra stilistica dei suoi lavori, basti pensare all’improbabile set di not360 (2002) o agli stranianti monologhi dei due personaggi de La Camera (2006).
The Night Walker (il cui titolo è ispirato all’omonimo film horror di William Castle) prende spunto dalla storia di un uomo terrorizzato da tutto, che come anestetico contro i suoi mali decide di collezionare biografie di personaggi famosi, concentrandosi però esclusivamente sulla parte relativa alla loro nascita e morte (quest’ultima sempre avvenuta in tragiche circostanze). La sua storia, narrata attraverso il voice over di un attore, diviene il soggetto della composizione di una canzone (The Night Walker) di un duo londinese, il cui making of risulta elemento centrale del lavoro.
All’installazione video si accompagnerà un 45 giri della canzone prodotto in edizione limitata di 500 copie.
In occasione della mostra, sarà anche presentato il progetto fotografico untitled (marilyn) giunto al suo quarto anno: dal 2004 infatti, l’artista si reca a fotografare, annualmente, la tomba di Marilyn Monroe nel Westwood Memorial Park di Los Angeles. Ad ogni scatto corrisponde la situazione che l’artista trova di fronte al monumento di una delle celebrità più importanti della storia, tra fiori appena cambiati e appassiti da settimane, tra il bianco e rosa dei marmi appena lucidati alla scopa inavvertitamente abbandonata lì da un distratto netturbino.

Galleria Maze, in collaboration with Galleria Monitor, is proud to present a new project by Rä di Martino.
Her first solo show in Turin coincides with the first of a series of appointments, with which Maze inaugurates its new programme characterized by contaminations and dialogues with other galleries, curators and artists.
For the gallery, Rä di Martino has created a two screens installation where analysis of the cinematographic language is combined with the typical ironic and surreal components that have always been part of her works, as the unlikely set of not360 (2002) or the estranging monologues in La Camera (2006).
The Night Walker (whose title is inspired by William Castle’s horror film) takes its starting point with the history of a man terrified by everything, that as an anaesthetic for his sufferings, decides to collect biographies of famous people, by focusing exclusively on the moment of their birth and death (the latter always occurs in tragic circumstances). His history, told through the voice over of an actor (Stephen Campbell Moore), becomes the subject of the song’s composition (The Night Walker) of the Londoner duo Smoke Machine, whose making of is the central element of the work.
The video installation is accompanied by a 7 inches album with the songs that were developed in the video in a limited edition of 500 copies.
The exhibition will also include the photographic project untitled (marilyn), which is now in its fourth year: since 2004, the artist has been going to photograph every year the tomb of Marilyn Monroe at Westwood Memorial Park of Los Angeles.
Every picture reflects a particular moment found by the artist: the shots are changing from freshly cut or faded flowers to white and pink just polished marble and to the broom, that has been inadvertently abandoned by a distracted dustman.
