Zum 100. Geburtstag
Max Bill, who was born in Winterthur in 1908, began his studies at the Bauhaus in 1926. In the 1930s the breadth of his training enabled him to embark on a career which resulted in him becoming a true polymath. Bill was not only a painter and sculptor: he was also an architect, exhibition designer, poster artist, book designer and author, as well as a teacher, typographer and designer of furniture and industrial products. In all these areas he engaged fully with the times he lived in, and had a far-reaching impact, both conceptually and practically, not just in his own country but on an international scale.
Bill's abundant creative talent will be on display in two exhibitions. While the Kunstmuseum Winterthur is devoting a retrospective to his paintings and sculptures, the Gewerbemuseum will be focusing on Bill's design creations. The exhibition includes works from six decades.
