The gateway for International and Ibero-American film celebrats its 25th anniversary in 2008. MIFF plays a leading role in maintaining and further enriching film culture in South Florida. Miami's unique geographical and cultural position has made MIFF a premiere venue for showcasing film and fostering film business throughout the year.
The Miami International Film Festival (MIFF) is celebrating its 25th anniversary February 28-March 9, 2008—an exciting and distinctive milestone in the history of the Festival! This anniversary year will be overflowing with thought-provoking films, lively events, educational programming and meaningful community outreach. In 2007, more than 70,000 people attended the Festival to enjoy 120 films from all over the world.
Miami, with its unique vantage point on the hemisphere, has become a center of arts and culture, making it one of the most alluring locales in the world. The Festival itself has reached an inimitable position in the film and entertainment scene, claiming its rightful place among the finest film festivals in the world. As the only major festival hosted by an institution of higher learning, its spirited platform for new filmmakers and its unparalleled educational opportunities make the Festival a one-of-a-kind experience.
As an international Festival that presents both dramatic and documentary films, MIFF has grown into its role as an organization that builds, transforms, and bridges communities through film. Films chosen for Community Outreach and the World Issues World Film programs expose us to ideas, points of view, or ways of life that are different from our own. These films are accompanied by discussions, panels, and interaction with filmmakers and community representatives. In addition, the Festival is host to a wide range of educational and professional programs including REEL Seminars, Media Summit, Encuentros, Technology & New Media, Master Classes and Florida Focus.
All of us at the Festival are thrilled about what awaits us in 2008. The opportunities are many and we invite you to join with us to make the 25th edition of MIFF a celebration to remember.
