Il secondo appuntamento di Sensitive Timelines è con l'artista tedesco Clemens von Wedemeyer,
per la prima volta a Roma per presentare il proprio lavoro, insieme a Maya Schweizer.
Clemens von Wedemeyer (Gottingen, DE, nel 1974), ha partecipato quest’anno all’edizione del
Skulptur Projekte a Munster; al suo attivo, una personale al PS1 MOMA, New York oltre che a
numerose mostre e rassegne in Europa e negli Stati Uniti.
Nei lavori di Wedemeyer, ciò che avviene nelle immagini può essere il frutto di un’accurata
sceneggiatura e può non esserlo; non si ha mai la sensazione sicura di assistere ad una
documentazione della realtà o piuttosto ad una sua interpretazione cinematografica. Sevendosi
spesso di un mezzo filmico scarno, diretto e di un approccio soggettivo all’immagine, Wedemeyer
usa azioni spontanee per costruire uno svolgimento scritto e orchestrato (From the opposite side ).
Spesso citando un’estetica vicina ad alcune forme di cinema sperimentale, da Vertov a Beckett
(From the opposite side , 2007) a Tarkovskij (Otjesd/Leaving , 2005), fino alla commedia di Laurel e
Hardy (Big business , 2002), Wedemeyer punta la realtà per indagarla attraverso l’utilizzo di uno
script, seguendo il degenerare di questo in una serie di eventi imprevedibili, fuori da una logica
strettamente narrativa, che creano una situazione di confusione e disorientamento.

The 2nd event of Sensitive Timelines is the presentation and screening with Clemens von
Wedemeyer, the first time for him in Rome to show his work, together with Maya Schweizer.
Clemens von Wedemeyer (Gottingen, DE, nel 1974) recently participated to the fourth edition of
Skulpture Projekte in Muster; on his side, a solo exhibition in PS1 MOMA, New York and at CGAC
Santiago de Compostela 2008 besides several other exhibitions and screenings in Europe and
United States.
He is currently in residency at the Villa Romana in Florence.
In Wedemeyer's works, what happens in images can be reality as well as the result of an accurate
script; one never has the proper feeling of witnessing to a documentation rather than a cinematic
interpretation. His films can be seen as conceptual works.
Often using a gaunt, direct language and a subjective approach to the image, Wedemeyer uses
spontaneous actions to construct written and orchestrated developments (From the opposite side ).
Often quoting an aesthetic close to some forms of experimental cinema, from Vertov to Beckett
(From the opposite side , 2007) and Tarkovskij (Otjesd/Leaving , 2005), to the comedy by Laurel
and Hardy (Big business , 2002), Wedemeyer points to reality to investigate through a script,
following its degeneration in a series of unpredictable events, out of a strictly narrative logic,
which creates a confused and puzzled situation.
Videos comes sometimes with a Making of; the practice of beyond the scenes is for Wedemeyer an
analysis of a context and of the work's premises, that becomes work itself as carrier of a meaning,
the ideation of the work as a work itself rather than a simple project documentation.
