Korean Artist and pianist Helen Lee displays her new series of work In The Beginning at the SG Private Banking Gallery, Alliance Française de Singapour.
Helen takes a poetic approach to painting. "If we think of a blank canvas as an empty theatre," notes the artist, "The colours are harmonies, and each brush stroke represents rhythm."
She looks into nature and music to find inspiration for her vivid abstract paintings. Composition and form in Helen’s work are free and fluid, consisting of fluid shape composites and the brutal intersections of lines and nostalgic colors. Her highly qualified musical background has an undeniable impact on her paintings as she strives to create visual piece of music rather than common canvases.
Helen has exhibited in Malaysia, Singapore and New York City. Her works are in private collections in Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Taiwan, Germany, the Philippines and USA. In 2003 and 2004, she received the "Highly Commended" Prize at the UOB Painting of the Year Competition.
Helen is the 1st prize winner of the UOB Painting of the Year 2005 Competition in The Representational Medium Category. Her paintings hang proudly on the walls of UBS, UOB, SingTel, Strategic Executive Search and World Neighbors.
