Building Pictures

Museum Contemporary Photography, Chicago

The exhibition explores connections between architecture and photography, from methods of spatial representation to the relationships between the real and virtual worlds in each discipline. It examines the responses of artists to the ideals of modern design, and explores the connections between the immersive natures of both photography and architecture and the networks of spatial relationships on which they depend.

comunicato stampa

Chicago –– In April 2008 the MoCP opens Building Pictures, a group exhibition that explores connections between architecture and photography, from methods of spatial representation to the relationships between the real and virtual worlds in each discipline. It examines the responses of artists to the ideals of modern design, and explores the connections between the immersive natures of both photography and architecture and the networks of spatial relationships on which they depend. Topics addressed include architecture as idealized space, the idea of progress, and the perceived failure of the utopian ideals of modernism.

The exhibitions, presentations, and related programs of the MoCP are sponsored in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services; After School Matters; the Lannan Foundation; the Lloyd A. Fry Foundation; the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency; the National Endowment for the Arts; The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation; the Lange Burk Fund; the Illinois Humanities Council; The Palmer Foundation; The Mayer and Morris Kaplan Family Foundation; American Airlines, the official airlines of the MoCP; Target, and our members.
