Die Kirchner show. A group exhibition to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner's death. A way of connecting past and present outside of the natural life time frame.
Kornhäuschen is please to present 41 Tage (Die Kirchner
Show), an exhibition to celebrate the 70th anniversary of
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s death. The title of the exhibition
and the dates of its duration are taken from the dates of
Kirchner’s birth and death. It will open on May 6 and
close, as the title suggests, 41 days later on June 15 - 70
years to the day since Kirchner's death. The aim of the
title is to reinforce the idea of a bridge as a metaphor
for compression of time. Or a way of connecting past and
present outside of its natural time frame.
In 1905 Ernst Ludwig Kirchner founded together with Fritz
Bleyl, Erich Heckel und Karl Schmidt-Rottluff the artist
group Die Brücke. The aim of Die Brücke was to celebrate
the latest avant-garde movements through a connection with
their historical precedents - literally forming a bridge
between the old and the new. In this light the exhibition
will attempt to utilize the 'bridging effect' of Die Brücke
by looking at the influence of Kirchner's practice on the
work of contemporary artists.
