Power to the People

Contemporary Art Forum, Kitchener

A plan for public ownership of what became Ontario Hydro was conceived in Kitchener by Detweiler, Snider and Beck in 1902. Power from Niagara came to Berlin (Kitchener) on October 11, 1910 celebrated with the motto Power to the People. Using this motto as thematic title in 2002, submissions are requested for Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener.02, September 21-29.

Artists may propose new or existing works to be installed within outdoor and indoor sites in and around Kitchener's City Hall and downtown core. Works in all media will be considered including sculpture, performance, video, sound, installation, painting, drawing, etc.

Large outdoor works are encouraged.

Artists may wish to create works with electricity as subject, engage the broader democratic themes suggested by the phrase, refer to the specific history mentioned above, or view the public installation of the work itself as an act of empowerment.

Works from video artists addressing the theme Power to the People will also be considered for an accompanying curated exhibition and screening
