As part of Dorothy Arnold's retrospective exhibition, the gallery will present a series of drawings dating from 1979 to 1986. Concurrent to the New York venue, an exhibition of Dorothy Arnold's recent drawings (1999-2000) will be on view at MOCA DC, opening on January 18. Selected from over 400 drawings, the works on exhibit focus on Arnold's nudes, widely known as Figure Studies. The Figure Studies, watercolor and pencil on paper, are wonderful rendering of models in motion and at rest, instinctive and indiscreet, they are reminiscent of Egon Schiele.

Florence Lynch Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of Drawings by
Dorothy Arnold.
As part of Dorothy Arnold's retrospective exhibition, the gallery will
present a series of drawings dating from 1979 to 1986. Concurrent to the
New York venue, an exhibition of Dorothy Arnold's recent drawings
(1999-2000) will be on view at MOCA DC, opening on January 18. Selected
from over 400 drawings, the works on exhibit focus on Arnold's nudes,
widely known as Figure Studies. The Figure Studies, watercolor and
pencil on paper, are wonderful rendering of models in motion and at rest,
instinctive and indiscreet, they are reminiscent of Egon Schiele in style
and context.
Of the drawings, Arnold says "When I made these I remember sitting on the
floor at Waltham Studios. All of us from the art studios were grouped
around the live model. It was the rapid pace that's important. I would
line them up on the floor so they could dry before stacking them. I love
the understated ones, the ones defined by negative space."
Anchoring the drawings are two early paintings, Nude with Red Hair,
1975/86 and Squared Nude, 1978/86. The large canvases convey the same
translucent quality as the drawings
The retrospective continues with exhibitions at the City Art Gallery &
