L'IGAV - Istituto Garuzzo per le Arti Visive con sede a Torino è l’unica organizzazione culturale italiana che, con la mostra “Oltre i confini del corpo”, partecipa a “Qui vive?” - I Biennale Internazionale per Giovani Artisti organizzata dal National Centre for Contemporary Arts di Mosca e dal Moscow Museum of Modern Art, in programma a Mosca dal 2 al 30 luglio prossimi.

L’evento avrà luogo al Fabrika Project, inaugurazione mercoledì 2 luglio ore 20, e alla RuArts Foundation and Gallery of Contemporary Art, inaugurazione martedì 8 luglio ore 20.

“Oltre i confini del corpo” è un progetto curato da Marisa Vescovo e Alessandro Carrer e presentato all’interno della Biennale moscovita con il patrocinio della Regione Piemonte e il sostegno dell’Istituto Italiano di Cultura a Mosca. Riunisce le opere di undici artisti italiani emergenti, non ancora contaminati dalle regole del mercato e che pertanto si configurano come testimoni di un’espressività pura e libera. E’ composta prevalentemente da installazioni e lascerà ampio spazio al “fare” degli artisti, liberi di esprimere la propria creatività attraverso opere d’arte site-specific.

Gli artisti scelti per “Qui vive?” sono Bianco e Valente, Domenico Borrelli, Filippo Centenari, Davide Coltro, Paolo Consorti, Daniele Girardi Paolo Grassino, Diego Scroppo, Francesco Sena, Saverio Todaro, Fabio Viale: autori che cercano, come spiega Marisa Vescovo nella presentazione, “di dominare il caos oltrepassando i limiti del corpo, per costringerlo a diventare forma e immagine, affondare nel mistero e nell’enigma, oscillare tra poesia e scienza, in intrecci e variazioni sul tema”; le loro opere “abitano il confine, si muovono tra il dentro e il fuori, il qui e l’altrove”. E Alessandro Carrer scrive: “Nella perdita della centralità, nell’infinita rete di connessioni e commutazioni, l’artista (e l’opera) sperimenta e conduce il gioco, definisce ogni volta nuove regole, impasta i generi, si sposta velocemente attraverso varchi temporali, riprogramma il mondo”.

Al Fabrika Project Filippo Centenari costruisce un franoso muro-trincea di sacchi di sabbia, che carica di nuove energie con la luce e gli specchi; Saverio Todaro dà vita a una matrioska fatta di scatole che provengono da un mondo consumistico tutto da ri-vedere; Francesco Sena produce l’affioramento da un limbo di cera blu di ectoplasmi di corporea spiritualità; Paolo Grassino propone i suoi uomini fatti di solitudine trapassati e feriti dai tubi della tecnica odierna; Mimmo Borrelli fa apparire i suoi “esseri”, disperati ed erratici, calandoli in un improbabile materia molle e rosata; Bianco e Valente con le loro mappe celesti ci portano in misteriosi luoghi magic; Fabio Viale fa apparire su un braccio di una scultura di Michelangelo i tatuaggi trovati, come tracce di scrittura rupestre, nella cultura russa.

Alla RuArts Foundation and Gallery of Contemporary Art Davide Coltro, con i suoi quadri elettronici, ripensa al rapporto tra artista, opera e pubblico, inserendolo nel tempo perenne dell’immagine digitale; Diego Scroppo plasma invece forme sconosciute, oltre il confine che divide reale e fantastico: nuove creature che popolano universi paralleli; ambigue derive iper-realiste abitano l’inferno dantesco di Paolo Consorti: visioni oniriche che sovrappongono l’elaborazione digitale dell’immagine e la pittura; nella mescolanza dei generi si muove anche il lavoro di Daniele Girardi che indaga le trasformazioni in un’alternanza tra pittura e digitale.

IGAV – the Garuzzo Institute for the Visual Arts – is the only Italian cultural organisation that, through the exhibition entitled Beyond Body Boundaries, is taking part in Qui vive? – 1st International Biennale for Young Artists, which has been orchestrated by the National Centre for Contemporary Arts in Moscow and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and is set to take place in Moscow from July 2 – 30.

The event will take be staged at two venues: the Fabrika Project (opening on Wednesday, July 2 at 8pm) and the RuArts Foundation and Gallery of Contemporary Art (opening on Tuesday, July 8 at 8pm).

Beyond the Confines of the Body, an exhibition curated by Marisa Vescovo and Alessandro Carrer, is being presented as part of the Moscow-based biennale with the support of the Italian Institute of Culture in Moscow. It brings together the work of eleven emerging artists who have yet to be ‘contaminated’ by the rules of the marketplace and, as such, are capable of pure, unfettered expression. The exhibition is composed mostly of installations and will devote ample space to the ‘artistry’ of the artists themselves, who will be free to express their creativity through site-specific works of art.

The artists selected for Qui vive? include Bianco & Valente, Domenico Borrelli, Filippo Centenari, Davide Coltro, Paolo Consorti, Daniele Girardi, Paolo Grassino, Diego Scroppo, Francesco Sena, Saverio Todaro and Fabio Viale. As Marisa Vescovo explains in her presentation, these are artists who try “to dominate chaos by passing beyond the limits of the body, in an attempt to constrain it to become both form and image, to sink into mystery and enigma, to oscillate between poetry and science, in intricate variations on the theme”; their works “live on the edge, moving between the inside and the outside, here and elsewhere”. As Alessandro Carrer notes: “In the loss of centrality, in the infinite network of connections and commutations, the artist (and, indeed, also the work) experiments with and plays the game, defining new rules each time, mixing genres, shifting rapidly across temporal passages, reprogramming the world”.

At the Fabrika Project, Filippo Centenari constructs an unstable wall/trench from sandbags, which is imbued with new energies through light and mirrors; Saverio Todaro gives life to a ‘Matryoshka' made out of boxes supplied by a consumer world in need of a total re-vision; Francesco Sena produces a limbo of blue ectoplasmic wax with a corporeal spirituality; Paolo Grassino offers up his men of solitude, pierced and wounded by the tubes of modern-day technology; Mimmo Borrelli brings to light his desperate and erratic ‘beings’, dropping them into an improbably soft, rosy material; with their celestial charts, Bianco and Valente take us to mysterious, magical places situated in certain parts of the Earth; last of all, onto a Michelangelo sculpture, Fabio Viale adds tattoos, found, like rocky traces of scripture, in Russian culture.

At the RuArts Foundation and Gallery of Contemporary Art, Davide Coltro – with his electronic works – rethinks the relationship between the artist, the work and the public, inserting it into the perennial time of the digital image; Diego Scroppo moulds unknown forms, beyond the border that divides reality from fantasy, to produce new creatures that populate parallel universes; ambiguous hyper-realist drifts inhabit Paolo Consorti’s Dantesque hell, creating oniric visions that superimpose the digitally processed image and the painting; within this melange of genres, there is also space for the work of Daniele Girardi, who investigates transformations that oscillate between painting and digital art.
