A dialogue between ten artists

Contemporary Art Centre of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki

The works by five Spanish and Latin-American artists, who participated in Photo Espana 2007 and the works of five Greek artists who participated in the Portfolio Reviews of the Photobiennale/20th International Photography Meeting 2008 are now being presented in the form of an open dialogue. These two group exhibitions are part of the series: Dialogues: Greek and Foreign Artists.

The works by five Spanish and Latin-American artists, who participated in PHotoEspaña 2007 and the works of five Greek artists who participated in the Portfolio Reviews of the Photobiennale/20th International Photography Meeting 2008 are now being presented in the form of an open “dialogue” at the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography (T.M.P.).
These two group exhibitions are part of the TMP series: «Dialogues: Greek and Foreign Artists».

The Spanish-Latin American part
Five European Gazes. Spanish and Latin American Photography

Five European curators – Camila Brown, Nina Kassianou, Joanna Studzinska, Olga Sviblova, Enrica Viganò – have chosen Pedro Álvarez, Matías Costa, Juan González, David Jiménez and María Isabel Rueda for the project “Cinco miradas europeas. Fotografía española e hispanoamericana” (Five European Gazes. Spanish and Latin American Photography), which was organized in 2007 by the Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with PHotoEspaña, aiming at the promotion of Spanish culture abroad.

Their work reflects a blend of styles and trends, while some of them have already won international recognition. Matías Costa for example, is a two-time winner of the World Press Photo prize and the recipient of the UNICEF Prize in 2000 for his photo essay on the orphan victims of the genocide in Rwanda while María Isabel Rueda, a Colombian photographer, won a Phillips Art Contest for the Young Talents prize in her country.


The Greek part
Selection of five Greek artists from the Portfolio Reviews of Photobiennale 2008

Twenty three reviewers of international stature from Greece and other countries have distinguished among others the works by Eleni Mouzakiti, Myrto Papadopoulos, Aggeliki Svoronou, Pavlos Fissakis and Nikos Chrisikakis, who participated at the Portfolio Reviews of Photobiennale / 20th International Photography Meeting 2008.
Myrto Papadopoulos and Pavlos Fissakis won two of the “Epson – Exceed Your Vision” awards of Photobiennale. Moreover, Myrto Papadopoulos is the winner of the CEDEFOP/TMP award.
The Thessaloniki Museum of Photography organized the Portfolio Reviews section with the sponsorship of Epson for a second consecutive year. In the Portfolio Reviews section selected photographers and artists who use the photographic medium have the chance to meet and present their work to experts of the photographic field.
