Pedestrian is a public art project of three site-specific, projected installations that will be
on view simultaneously in three locations in New York City, in the galleries at
Eyebeam in
Chelsea and two outdoor venues at Rockefeller Plaza in Midtown and The Studio
Museum
in Harlem.
On view from February 13 through March 23, 2002, Pedestrian
presents
miniature, computer-generated moving people projected directly onto the ground
from
above, providing a bird's-eye view of pedestrian traffic.
These projected
"pedestrians"
will interact to form patterns, crowds and streams that evolve unpredictably,
almost
organically, as if having lives of their own.
In conjunction with the public
art project
Pedestrian will host a number of public programs.
Educational initiatives
include family
programs, educational events, a lecture, a panel discussion, and curriculum
materials for
school children.
