Seven prominent Rumanian artists will exhibit some of their most interesting works at the Omma Center. This exhibition is the beginning of an exchange programme between the Arta Foundation Cluj and Omma. In July, under the aegis of Omma, a group of Greek artists will exhibit at the Cluj Museum in Romania. This important exhibition of Rumanian artists in Chania presents a group of internationally-acclaimed artists who give us a sampling of current trends in painting and sculpture in Rumania. Seven prominent Rumanian artists, chosen by the Arta Foundation Cluj - Cluj Museum of Napoca-Cluj in Rumania, will exhibit some of their most interesting works at the Omma Center of Contemporary Art in Chania from the 6th to the 25 of March, 2002. This exhibition is the beginning of an exchange programme between the Arta Foundation Cluj and Omma. In July, under the aegis of Omma, a group of Greek artists will exhibit at the Cluj Museum in Romania.
This important exhibition of Rumanian artists in Chania presents a group of internationally-acclaimed artists who give us a sampling of current trends in painting and sculpture in Rumania. It is worth noting that this is the first time these artists exhibit their work in Greece.
Of the seven Rumanian artists, painters and sculptors:
Ioan Sbirciu (1948) Painter
Professor and lecturer at the University of Fine Arts and Design of Cluj, he has been Chairman of the Departments of Plastic Arts and Painting and Sculpture since 1992. Since 1992 he has also been a member of the governing council of the Plastic Arts Department and member of the Board of Directors of the University. Since 1999 he has been President of the Chamber of Arts of Cluj and since 1997 he has been President of the Rumanian Artists' Association. His works have been exhibited in most countries of Europe.
Claudiu Presecan (1955) Painter
Claud Presecan has presented his works in numerous individual and group exhibitions throughout Europe, North America and Africa. He is President and co-founder of the Arta Foundation Cluj-Napoca and Director of the Cluj-Art-On-Line Gallery.
Together with the Rotary Club of Cluj-Napoca, he organized the "Laz '99" and Laz 2000" International Art Camps in Transylvania. He has created the scenery for performances of Metterlink's Blue Bird at the International Theatre Festival in Ortez, France and for the Nutcracker Suite which was put on by the International Ballet
Foundation in Washington D.C. and Bekescsaba, Hungary.
Radu Solovastru (1957)
Painter and lecturing professor in the Department of Graphic Arts and Chairman of the Department of Graphic Arts at the Ioan Andrescu Academy of Fine Arts. His works have been exhibited throughout Europe.
Alexandru Pasat (1955)
Sculptor, with many exhibitions in Europe and America, he has won two prizes at the Ravenna Biennale in Italy (one gold medal and one second prize).
Daian Calin (1968) Painter and Architect
Aurelian Pirosca (1973) Painter
He has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in his own country and in various countries of Europe.
Andreea Radu (1975) Painter
With many exhibitions in Europe and Japan. She works at the Cluj Museum in Napoca.
All of these artists are graduates of the Ioan Andreescu Academy of Fine Arts of Cluj.
