The program Matter of Fact explores
educational aesthetics in performativity. Questioning the transmission of
subject matter, knowledge and content, the performer implies pedagogical
methods when speculating on the formality of artistic, fictitious and
personal politics of history. A small 'cast' of contributors are using the
timeframe of the exhibition as a point of departure to reflect upon their
own method of transcending knowledge. Their specificities range from the
pure formality of the conscious, language as a visual spectacle, mediators
of cultural production and epic emancipators of utopian (political)
potentialities.
The program of Matter of Fact was especially designed
for Manifesta 7's 'Principle Hope' and took on a process-based structure
in which each contributor was working towards a 'result'. As Manifesta 7
is coming to an end, Matter of Fact encourages itself to continue
discussing its potential results in a form of an 'aftermath'. This
'aftermath' comprises of a series of performances by Adam Pendleton, Falke
Pisano and Will holder, a series of screenings by Renzo Martens, Falke
Pisano and Ricardo Valentim and various presentations by Jeremiah Day and
Olaf Nicolai. As the initial discourse of Manifesta is debating the
notion of Europe, Matter of Fact stretches its contextual boundaries by
presenting its 'aftermath' in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
