Sarà strano
sapere infine che non si poteva andare avanti all’infinito,
con quella vocina a ripeterci sempre
nulla cambierà,

e ricordare anche,
perchè allora sarà tutto finito, come stavano
le cose, e come abbiamo buttato via il tempo, come se
non ci fosse nulla da fare,

quando, in un lampo
il clima cambiò, e l’aria lieve si fece
d’una pesantezza insopportabile, il vento straordinariamente
taciturno
e le nostre città cenere,

e sapere pure
ciò che non avevamo mai sospettato, che era qualcosa come
l’estate
al massimo della magnificenza tranne che le notti erano più
calde
e le nubi parevano rilucere,

e perfino allora,
perchè non saremo molto cambiati, chiederci
che ne sarà delle cose, e chi rimarrà a ripetere
tutto daccapo,

e in qualche modo cercare,
ma tuttora incapaci, di sapere cosa davvero
sia andato storto del tutto, o come mai
stiamo morendo.

“WHEN THE VACATION IS OVER FOR GOOD” e’ il titolo di questa poesia di Mark Strand, poeta americano nato nel 1934.
La riflessione che pone il poeta su come il tempo, il contesto, la situazione, possano condizionare la lettura, la visione e perfino il destino delle cose e delle persone, e’ la stessa che Tobias Collier, Kasper Sonne, Steve Van Den Bosch propongono nelle loro opere, suggerendo il “silenzio di una assenza” e creando nello spettatore un paesaggio della memoria.

It will be strange
knowing at last it couldn’t go on forever,
the certain voice telling us over and over
that nothing would change,

and remembering too,
because by then it will all be done with, the way
things were, and how we had wasted time as though
there was nothing to do,

when, in a flash
the weather turned, and the lofty air became
unbearably heavy, the wind strikingly dumb
and our cities like ash,

and knowing also,
what we never suspected, that it was something like summer
at its most august except that the nights were warmer
and the clouds seemed to glow,

and even then,
because we will not have changed much, wondering what
will become of things, and who will be left to do it
all over again,

and somehow trying,
but still unable, to know just what it was
that went so completely wrong, or why it is
we are dying

WHEN THE VACATION IS OVER FOR GOOD” is the title of this peom by Mark Strand, american poet born in 1934.
The poet operates a reflection on how time, context and situation can influence the way we read and see people and things, ultimately
influencing their destiny. It is the same reflection at the basis of Tobias Collier, Kasper Sonne and Steve Van Den Bosch ‘s work. The artists suggest the “silence of an absence”, creating a memory-based landscape in the mind of the viewer.
