Mark Innerst

Paul Kasmin Gallery, New York

Mark Innerst's most recent paintings draw upon subjects as familiar as New York cityscapes, the Chelsea Piers Driving Range, a Hudson River boat launch and dense forest landscapes. However by simplifying forms, changing vantage points and shifting the scale of the paintings, Innerst explores and reinterprets each image.

comunicato stampa

PAUL KASMIN GALLERY is pleased to announce our upcoming exhibition of new paintings by MARK INNERST to be held from April 5 through May 4, 2002.

With his subtle sensibility and masterful, meticulous technique Innerst visually transcends the commonplace, elevating his everyday subject matter to a heroic level. The porcelain smooth surface of his paintings is infused with a brilliant atmospheric light that is created through evenly applied successive layers of acrylic paints and each painting is finished with his handmade wood frame.

Innerst's vision of his subjects provides the viewer with an intimate encounter translated through scale and intense detail. His paintings invite the viewer to savor the fleeting images of our surroundings, offering a valuable glimpse into humanity. While Innerst's work continues the tradition of twentieth century American Realism and references both the Romantic Landscape and Symbolist mythology, his work is realized with a contemporary eye.
