''As you enter the exhibition, you consider this a group show by an artist you don’t know by the name of Mr. Rossi'' è un progetto-mostra atipico. È l' esperienza di oltre un anno di ricerche che artisti e scrittori hanno tradotto in una mostra che si terrà negli spazi ex-fabbrica Minerva, in via Cletto Arrighi 16, durante i giorni di MiArt, e che inaugurerà la sera del 18 aprile alle ore 19.

Il punto di partenza immaginario del lavoro degli artisti è l’opera di Edwin Abbott Abbott, teologo e pedagogista ottocentesco che deve la sua fama, oggi, al romanzo Flatland – A romance of many dimensions. Flatland racconta la scoperta della tridimensionalità in un mondo di figure a due dimensioni, suggerendo metodi percorribili per scoprirne o immaginarne di ulteriori.

Ogni singola opera in mostra è in qualche modo il ricordo di un viaggio fra più dimensioni, guidato dalle istruzioni di chi lo ha già sognato o compiuto. Fra gli altri: Thomas Jefferson, Jules Verne, Raymond Queneau e Mr. Rossi. In Italia Mr. Rossi porta un cognome qualunque, ma è stato anche il protagonista di un cartone animato negli anni Sessanta. Come unico artista, Mr. Rossi è il travestimento di una prassi artistica in cui le idee vengono proposte e vagliate collettivamente. Il processo di lavoro non segue la logica della pertinenza ad un tema, ma vede nello sviluppo di un'idea, negli scarti molteplici da un tracciato comune, l’oggetto stesso dell' opera.

Per questa mostra, nel corso del tempo Mr. Rossi ha inventato superfici, passaggi, panorami e permutazioni semplici o complesse: regole valide in altre dimensioni e percorsi per raggiungerle. L’ipotesi di base del lavoro di questo ignoto artista è il fatto che, in fondo, sia assolutamente inconcepibile la sola idea che tutto questo possa esistere. Forse è per questo, che, entrando nella mostra, la considererete una mostra collettiva di un artista sconosciuto noto come Mr. Rossi.

''As you enter the exhibition, you consider this a group show by an artist you don’t know by the name of Mr. Rossi'' is an unusual exhibition project. It is the experience of over a year of research by artists and writer, translated into a show to be held at the ex-Minerva factory, via Cletto Arrighi 16, during MiArt, and which will open on April 18th at 7 pm.

The imaginary starting point of the artists’ work are the writings of Edwin Abbott Abbott, nineteenth-century pedagogue and theologian whose present fame is owed to his novel Flatland – A romance of many dimensions. Flatland narrates the discovery of depth in a world of two-dimensional figures, suggesting viable methods to discover or imagine further dimensions.

Each work in the exhibition is somehow the reminiscence of a dimensional voyage, guided by the instructions of those who already made or imagined the trip. Among them: Thomas Jefferson, Jules Verne, Raymond Queneau and Mr. Rossi. In Italy, Mr. Rossi bears everyman’s family name, but he’s also been the main character in a Sixties cartoon show. As a single artist, Mr. Rossi is the disguise of an artistic practice where ideas are collectively proposed and assessed. The elaboration process doesn’t follow the logic of relevance to a theme, but considers the idea’s development, its manifold deviations from a common track, as the work’s object itself.

For this show, over some time Mr. Rossi has invented surfaces, passages, panoramas and simple or complex permutations: rules holding in other dimensions, and paths to reach them. The core hypothesis of this unknown artist’s work is that the mere idea that all this could exist is, after all, inconceivable. Maybe this is why as you enter the exhibition, you’ll consider this a group show by an artist you don’t know by the name of Mr. Rossi.
