Sound is all the possible ways there are to hear it. The first project on the Culture Mile
Sound is all the possible ways there are to hear it. The first project on the Culture Mile, the route connecting the district of Roombeek with the inner city of Enschede and its most important cultural organisations, is 'Acoustical Journey' by sound artist Bill Fontana. The work consists of audio compositions recorded along the route, each of which is linked to a total of five specific locations. Fontana, originally a composer, became interested in the mid Sixties in environmental sounds in which a good listener will be able to distinguish (serial) forms of music. He is fascinated by the simultaneity of events taking place in city life. By relocating sounds within the Culture Mile he creates a mutual cohesion in the route that would not have been possible in a visual way. Skor is a nationally operating organization, which develops exceptional art projects in relation to public spaces.
