Tune in to WFMU 91.1 to hear what the people in the clock tower are
saying about New York
On May 3rd, from 8-9pm
Beginning April 5, enormous projections of hundreds of New Yorkers have
been appearing atop the historic clock tower of 1 Main Street, DUMBO.
Artist Michael Counts has transformed the four clock faces into vast
video projection screens from which the gazes of New Yorkers are
emanating out over Manhattan and Brooklyn, giving a human aspect to the
architectural skyline of the city.
On Friday May3rd, for the first and only time, WFMU will broadcast the
voices behind the faces in the clock tower. During this unique 1 hour
long program, over one hundred New Yorkers will respond to questions
like: Is there such a thing as a NY moment? Would you describe NY as a
big city or a small town? What makes NY different from any other city?
Why do you live in NY? With a background score by long time
collaborator Joseph Diebes, this hour long program paints a provocative
portrait of New York told by the most authentic storytellers, New
Yorkers themselves.
Here is a small sample of the broadcast: Frances McDormand:(Actor) When
I first moved to New York I lived at the end of the D train in the
Bronx. I remember standing at the platform at 125th by myself for the
first time. I grew up in small rural areas in the Midwest, and I
freaked out, broke into a cold sweat, and I didn't leave my apartment
for a couple of days, but I'm still here. Michael Weiner: (Performance
Artist) The reason I first came to NY was to be a part of the surprising
and limitless quality of this modern global capital. Barbara Pollock:
(Journalist) The thing that makes NY different than any other city is
that it actually looks old fashioned.you feel as if you are in a 1940's
movie.
Gathering on the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges with radios in hand,
thousands of New Yorkers will tune in to WFMU for an unprecedented New
York moment. LOOKING FORWARD has allowed the city at large to peer into
the eyes and minds of over one hundred New Yorkers, whose paths may have
never crossed.
