comunicato stampa

De TENT. Academy Awards is an annual competition between the best graduation videos, films, shorts and animations of all Dutch art academies. A proven indicator setting the standard for young Dutch audiovisual talent, the TENT. Academy Awards is one of TENT.’s most well-known events. TENT. is the only institution that organises a competition for audiovisual graduation projects in the Netherlands. On Thursday night 16 July the nominated entries for 2009 will be shown in Film Theatre Cinerama. The winner will be announced by the expert jury and the audience will vote for the Public’s Choice Award ‘09.

Expert scouts have visited every graduation exhibition at all Dutch art academies in recent months to select nominees. A striking trend this year is the preference of young artists for short films with an average length of five minutes. Remarkably, Hogeschool voor de Kunsten ArtEZ Zwolle has produced a great deal of new talent this year. It is represented with as many as four nominations.

The nominees have a chance of winning the Jury Award, a residency abroad. In addition, the audience will vote for the Public’s Choice Award ’09. So far the audience and the jury have never chosen the same winner. Last year Yael Assaf’s entry won the Jury Award of the TENT. Academy Awards ’08 and the Public’s Choice Award ’08 went to Edward Cook.
