The location of the gallery (artworks-mk) is lovely – by the canal. Bring a picnic and some friends and enjoy looking through over 100 innovative and experimental artists' books, submitted by international book artists and students. Organised in conjunction with we love your books and co-curated by Dr Emma Powell from De Montfort University and Melanie Bush from The University of Northampton.
A small selection of work will tour to the College of Fine Arts
and Design, University of Sharjah, UAE. To be curated by
Karen Goodwin Legg.
Melanie has written this intro for our 2009 exhibition.
"The theme for our 2009 creative book-arts open exhibition is CLOSURE.
This is in honour of Emma’s anticipated completion in 2009 of
her PhD, which has dominated the last 8 years of her
life. Right now, the idea of closure seems to her impossible –
yet longed for. She has done amazingly to stick at it all this
time, as challenging as it has been. She looks forward to the
freedom she will have after closure..."
