Isea 2009

University of Ulster, Belfast

Exhibition and 15th international symposium on electronic art

comunicato stampa

ISEA2009 will be concerned with Engaged Creativity in Mobile Environments. The incessant change of physical and virtual environments under the influence of global capital and mass migration as well as the fluidity of personal and social relationships effected by digital information and communication technologies has come to determine the life experience for billions of people. These societal and technological conditions radically and rapidly alter the ways we communicate, inter- and transact, how we make meaning of the world and ourselves, and how we conduct our lives along dramatically changing fault lines of the private and the public. Digital technologies as the fuel of global capital have not only effected dynamic and increasingly precarious labour relations. They underpin and challenge the negotiation of political and economic, social and cultural, religious and territorial conflicts and the re/organisation of society and its spaces alongside changing notions of democracy, citizenship and (self-) governance. ISEA2009 seeks to explore how creative strategies engage with and challenge these fundamental issues.

ISEA2009 will promote, support and develop creativity in Northern Ireland and across the border building on the convergence of art and design driven innovation and creativity with advanced digital technologies. It will showcase Northern Ireland’s leading role in cultural, social and economic regeneration that builds on the development of the creative industries sector and the creative potential of its communities with a particular focus on the emergent generation of critical users of digital technologies.

It will demonstrate the leading role of the University of Ulster, and the academic sector in general, in the provision of knowledge, skills and entrepreneurship education and in driving research and development opportunities for and with creative industries businesses.

The symposium will particularly target the young generations as they drive rapid change in the digital age. It will bring together international experts and keynote speakers that are forward thinking in the strategic development and creative exploitation of digital technologies in order to enhance public governance, to generate employment opportunities, to stimulate wealth creation and to shape how people communicate, socialise and network in the future.
