Architect, Author, Designer, Teacher. The show is divided into five themed areas
Design director for US furniture manufacturer Herman Miller for over twenty years, creator of exhibitions and a keen photographer, George Nelson (1908-1986) carried out intensive research in the fields of housing and interior decoration, based on his firm conviction that design should be part and parcel of a company's philosophy, thus becoming a pioneer of corporate communication and identity. The show is divided into five themed areas (Nelson's House; Corporate Design; The Office; Exhibition Design; and Nelson the Author, Publicist, Thinker and Forerunner of 20th Century Design) and reveals the personal and professional career of a visionary, creator of emblematic icons of 1950s American design such as the Coconut Chair or the Marshmallow Sofa, and one of the indispensable figures who lent shape, after World War II, to the concept of modern design, with particular reference to the home and to work areas.
