For quite some years M.Kunze has been dealing with the question: How do you survive today ? Is there a future at all? Although an answer to this question is given every day, every moment - and ideally even an evident answer - the question itself can never be eliminated in principle. It becomes particularly pressing when the language in which it is expressed is not subject to any alterations any more and when the words remain the same despite of changing circumstances.

Although an answer to this question is given every day, every moment - and ideally even an evident answer - the question itself can never be eliminated in principle. It becomes particularly pressing when the language in which it is expressed is not subject to any alterations any more and when the words remain the same despite of changing circumstances. To M.Kunze the medium of painting serves as a model for this matter. Asking after the future meaning of a certain phrase means investigating into its roots. And the problem of the possibility of its daily applicability can render the issue of the mediums technical obsoleteness into an absurdity. To what extent such a shift becomes apparent and to what extent it may be the result of "personal perception" cannot and may not be concluded.
Michael Kunze is showing large scale paintings and a series of related c-prints, which also can be seen as autonomous photography.
