Barrett paints figurative photo-realist works. She is concerned with re-working very traditional subject matters in a highly contemporary manner. Leading on from sparse motorway scenes that are modern landscapes Barrett has immersed herself in the still life. 'Still Life'
Jo Barrett graduated from Bath Spa University College in 2000. Clapham
Art Gallery is delighted to present her first London based one-person
show.
Barrett paints figurative photo-realist works. She is concerned with
re-working very traditional subject matters in a highly contemporary
manner. Leading on from sparse motorway scenes that are modern
landscapes Barrett has immersed herself in the still life. Oversized
fruits, both commonplace and obscure, are rendered in hyper-realist
fashion. From Apples and Pears to Mangostein and Sharon Fruit, Barrett
creates sumptuous forms that appear edible and enticing. Painted
precisely and delicately, they are set against blurred backgrounds as if
caught photographically within a shortened depth of field. The effect is
rich and luxurious.
