For the project 'I am a gay bug', Thanner adapts the figure of Gregor Samsa in Kafkas The Metamorphosis and then ads another dimension by focusing on the sexual development of the character. As an over-dimensional insect, the artist portrays the gay bug 'Gregor Thanner' a doubly ostracized social outcast.
In her first SOLO-exhibition at the gallery "Lisi Hämmerle" the incredibly unique artist Billi Thanner, now residing in Vienna, Austria, is presenting the three-dimensional intervention "I am a gay bug", as part of the work group "Metamorphosis". Billi Thanner is without a doubt one of the most prominent protagonists of the new generation for modern, contemporary actionism.
For the project "I am a gay bug", Billi Thanner adapts the figure of Gregor Samsa in Kafkas The Metamorphosis and then ads another dimension by focusing on the sexual development of the character. As an over-dimensional insect, the artist portrays the gay bug"Gregor Thanner" a doubly ostracized social outcast. His metamorphosis, his Coming-Out, as a self confident individual have been vividly captured, in a 16 part cycle of development, in wonderfully realistic, yet at the same time visionary and fantastic drawings.
