The exhibition, 'Djinni in a Bottle' expands the field of contemporary art through the posing of new conceptual questions and enters the terrain of computer generated production forms, which to date has been barely explored. The starting-point for the project with some 16 positions from the surroundings of the Digital Art Department of the University of Applied Arts Vienna is the artistic acquisition of the object creation process, which until now has been used primarily in architecture and design for the materialisation of designs. Under the term '3D prototyping' digital calculations are employed for the realisation of workpieces, models, objects and sculptures as 3D prints, generally in the form of various synthetic materials. This technology opens up completely new possibilities for the realisation in three-dimensional, concrete form of aesthetic concepts from the media arts field, which up to today could only be visualized in the form of animation for the computer screen, or merely existed as datasets and therefore remained immaterial. This exhibition constitutes the first occasion upon which artists and theoreticians have combined their differing approaches with such a degree of intensity.
