comunicato stampa

The railway stations are usually perceived as places through which people pass and don’t stop. Nevertheless, the railway stations are public places, visited everyday by hundred and hundred thousands of people: why should they be characterized only by particular functions, and not by a value, which all those people could contemplate, and not exclusively use?

Following such kind of ideas, OIOIOI Art Gallery organizes the first, and never seen before, exhibition of contemporary art in the railway stations of Saint Petersburg: Into the public. The convulsive time of millions of passengers is in this way modified into a different perception, that is in the one of a space which can offer culture and art, beauty and thinking, in correspondence with the precious artistic and cultural life of the city as a whole.
Into the public, connecting together the various railway stations with different works of art, wants to give a positive and optimist view of life to the visitor-passengers, just in the place where everyone is often alone with his or her own thoughts, dreams, intentions and ambitions. With Into the pubic, a railway station is more than a station: it becomes an open air gallery, a place in the proper meaning of the word place. The artists of Into the public, draw and design the new business card of Saint Petersburg, because its stations are the first face of the city that millions of visitors everyday encounter.

On February 19th at 20.00 impressive space of Moscow Railway station for the first time will appear for visitors as enormous gallery of contemporary art. OIOIOI Art Gallery in cooperation with North-West Directorate of “Russian Railways” and “Fabrika Peremen” company starts the new art-project Into the Public. The series of exhibitions of modern artists working in various techniques and genres will be held on territory of legendary railway station.

The gallerist and owner of OIOIOI Art Gallery Mikhail Dolgopolov and curator and art director of the project the world-famous video-artist Francesco Attolini create the magnificent urban event where the traditions of Saint-Petersburg and modern ideas of OIOIOI Art Gallery will be presented in all the splendor of artistic intentions of organizers.

Contemporary art holds an important function – enhancing the public space, adding the fresh elements that attract attention. This helps not just to fit the works of art into the city space but also to promote art transformation of social environment. On February 19th for everyone there will be opened the first exhibition “The Great St.Petersburg” by photographer Sergey Kosianov, well-known in Russia and abroad. His works are kept in collections of Gazprom corporation and many famous bankers and banks. His style distinguishes with metaphysic penetration into the essence of image, blameless rigorous composition, master skill of handling the balance of black and white. Moreover, visitors of exhibition will have a chance to enjoy the unforgettable performance of Igor Butman – magnificent saxophonist, who harmonizes the thorough grasp of jazz style, rare sense of melodism and, of course, the origin of strong Russian musical background.
