Curated by Matthew Higgs and Paul Noble, two of
the best-informed and influential young British
artists, this international group show is a reaction
against the slacker attitude glorified by much of the
recent Britpack and a polemical call for passion
and complexity in contemporary art.
Higgs and Noble propose a virtual community of
artists from the 60's to the present whose work
explores the political territory between art and life.
Comprising painting, sculpture, photography, and
large-scale installation works, this will be a
directional show, using the past to point to future
possibilities for the uses of art. Included in the
exhibition will be important works by
Felix-Gonzalez Torres, Oyvind Fahlstrom, David
Hammons, Sarah Lucas, Wolfgang Tillmans and
Jeremy Deller.
