Installation and Paintings by Xiaoze Xie
Xiaoze Xie was born in the People's Republic of China and studied architecture and art in Beijing before immigrating to the U.S. in 1992. Much of the artist's work explores the
effects on society of cultural ideology and indoctrination; of censorship and the struggle for free expression.
Using photography in a very painterly manner, Xie creates haunting images of burning books
that reflect the destruction of knowledge by political extremists.
