Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen: Daywalker, giv slip
In this exhibition, Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen presents a series of new paintings installed with blackboards, upon which small dialogues are written in an interplay between image and text. The paintings are framed by odd fragments of text and a diary written by a vampire, who is the artist himself. Schmidt-Rasmussen presents us with stories from his own neighbourhood, the South Harbour district of Copenhagen, which represents a classic terrain vague, and he also traverses the rest of Copenhagen, as well as Hvide Sande, Spodsbjerg and Istanbul.
The paintings communicate atmospheres in which the everyday and trivial is illuminated by the poetic presence of colour and glitter, but also by a melancholy darkness. In this solo exhibition, Schmidt-Rasmussen addresses the relationship between the immediate and the distant world. Through the bloodthirsty figure, he cleans up his immediate surroundings and aims to dissolve, destabilise and deceive them in order to reveal another, more complex reality.

Kasper Akhøj: Welcome (TO THE TEKNIVAL)
In his exhibition, Kasper Akhøj presents his latest research-based works charting the proliferation of history. Akhøj shows how design and architecture can be overwhelmed by historical layers and communicate various personal stories.
The photographic work Welcome (TO THE TEKNIVAL) documents the restauration of the architect Eileen Gray’s iconic modernist Villa E. 1027 in southern France. The villa was built as a response to and a critique of Le Corbusier’s architecture, but was later – paradoxically enough, and without Gray’s permission – decorated with nine murals by Le Corbusier himself. The villa is currently being restored – not to its original condition, but including the murals.
The work Abstracta (2007-) likewise tells a story of design in the margins of traditional historiography. The display system Abstracta was designed by the Danish architect Poul Cadovius for a world fair in 1960, then cloned and mass produced in China in the 1970s, and afterwards exported to various other countries around the world, including the former Yugoslavia. Akhøj presents the project with a series of abstract sculptures.
Kasper Akhøj (b. 1976) studied at Goldsmiths College, University of London 1999–2000, Städelschule – Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Frankfurt am Main 2004–2006 and graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 2006. He completed the
Whitney Independent Study Program, New York in 2009. His works have been shown at ISCP – the International Studio & Curatorial Program, New York, 2009; Art in General, New York, 2009; 28th São Paulo Biennial, São Paulo, 2008; Den Frie – Centre of Contemporary Art, Copenhagen, 2006 and 50th Venice Biennial, Venice, 2003. Kasper Akhøj is currently Artist in Residence at 29th São Paulo Biennial, São Paulo, and will have a solo exhibition at Wiels – Center for Contemporary Art, Brussels later this year. Kasper Akhøj lives in Copenhagen and New York.
