In the course of the Gallery Weekend Barbara Thumm Gallery presents the eminent
American artist Jo Baer ́s first solo show in Germany since the 1980s. From May 1st to
June 26th 2010 the show provides an insight into the development of her oeuvre from
the 1970s to today.
In contrast to her groundbreaking minimalistic work of the early seventies, Jo Baer has
closed the chapter on her abstract period and turned to explorations of figurative
expressions.
Dutch independent curator Roel Arkesteijn says about Jo Baer: “Her unique role in the
development of Minimalism and her carefully reasoned withdrawal from that movement
are evoked and spelled out...”
Arkensteijn is also working on a vividly illustrated collection of texts by Jo Baer. During
this year ́s Berlin Biennial Barbara Thumm Gallery will initiate a book presentation and
also a talk with the artist.
Jo Baer who was born in Seattle in 1929, now lives and works in Amsterdam. Her works
