Essay (working title). A series of paintings and three video works
Sascha Hahn presents at Bibliothekswohnung his new video essay 'Essay (working title)' (2007-2010), a series of paintings and three shorter video works. The artist moved to Berlin three years ago in order to investigate the myths around David Bowie's stay in Berlin in the 1970s and his friendship with Iggy Pop. Over three years Hahn produced a narrative essay which combines found footage with filmic material shot by him. The result is a mesmerising series of images. The open structure is not only a formal play: It also alludes the projections and hopes from where the film project started and shows the failure of accessing the myth. There is no way to merge with the pop myth. These two movements are intertwined in the film: as in the compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach the end is thematically already resonating in the outset of the composition.
