Southwark Seen is an exhibition of installed photographs by professional
photographers, artists and local people; those who have lived and worked
around Southwark Park, Bermondsey, London SE16.
This exhibition compares and contrasts how photographs made by different
people present Southwark Park and its environs. A fixed geographical
area can be interpreted in many different ways and this is also
reflected in the presentation of the photographs. Conventional framing
and at the wall presentation is replaced by the creation of a three
dimensional sculptural installation.
Southwark Seen occupies the venue's mainspace and is placed in context
by historical pictures of the area in the entrance, films about the
local area in the salterspace and works by the Young Friends of
Southwark Park in the longspace.
For the past couple of years, much of Southwark Park in South-East
London has been a fenced off building site. Now that the works to
restore the children's play ground, boating lake and bandstand have been
completed, the fencing is coming down and Southwark Park is to be
officially re-opened to the public. This show, Southwark Seen,
celebrates the new Park.
