comunicato stampa

Time Divisa is a project that explores the possibility of replacing money with a time-sharing system based on the exchange of time for different tasks. It consists of 365 individual exchanges with inmates of the Santa Martha Acotila prison in Mexico City.

On a specific day and time, mutually agreed upon, the tasks are realized simultaneously. Each of us does the tasks the other requires and the documentation of it is the currency. The documentation of these tasks is done by electronic means on my part, such as audio or video, while the one of the inmates is done by drawing and/or objects.

The time exchanges are classified according to what i ask the interns to do. I consider the outcome of each exchange as a piece of work. I present these works as mine since they are the result of our time exchange, and I choose not to present what I do for them because those documentations represent the time that belongs to them.

The 365 exchanges (348 accomplished so far) are classified into 5 categories:
1) Time as corporal experience
2) Time as displacement / mapping
3) Time as caprice
4) Time as creation of relationships
5) Time as the creation of systems of intervention in the prison

24 Month Meditation is the theme around which the two year of research and development of the Biennial will be focused on.
The Biennial will be a time of reflection and work on different states of meditation, both private and collective, that can be achieved in art through a state of high or altered perception.

The Biennial is a project that does not mean to stack intentions, places or people into an organised vertical - structure, in order to prompt a dialogue with the art system. The Biennial stems from a personal necessity.
