The exhibition 'Pink Utopia' displays her installations and photographs. In recent years, the artist frequently uses silk, cotton and paper to demonstrate the sharp contrast between these material and modern space and buildings. In a sense, this practice reflects her attitudes towards art and the reality.
Fantasia - Journey of Discovering Happiness* is a non-profit art project
initiated by Fantasia Holdings Group Co., Limited in 2006. One well-known
artist is chosen by the project each year to accomplish an art program
pertinent to the theme of happiness. The project is expected to become a
contribution to the Chinese cultural prosperity.
On June 24th, 2009 the fourth *Fantasia - Journey of Discovering
Happiness*project was launched in Beijing. The well-known artist Jiang
Jie was the
executive of the event, who would carry out her art plan *Thousands of Faces
and Thousands of Perspectives* in the following one year. The plan includes
a series of interviews of well-known painters, musicians, novelists, poets,
film directors, philosophers and scholars, who talk about how their work is
related to happiness.
Jiang Jie would like to present her findings and reflections during the
discovery journey in the form of a solo show. The exhibition *Pink
Utopia*thus will be held at Beyond Art Space in Beijing on June 8
th, 2010 and present her installations and photographs. The exhibition is
her first solo show after 2006 and a unified representation of her four
years of work.
Jiang Jie is a female artist who has unique perspective towards the
environment and ecology. In her works, we can sense her views of space,
building, tradition and reality. One of Jiang Jie¡¯s greatest strength is her
capability of using a variety of materials in his works. In recent years,
she frequently uses silk, cotton and paper to demonstrate the sharp contrast
between these material and modern space and buildings. In a sense, this
practice reflects her attitudes towards art and the reality.
The artist decorates the gallery with pink silk bags filled with black
tiles. The roof ornamented with pink silk makes the place filled with
Utopian romance. Under each tile, there is a story and a piece of memory. It
reflects happiness, cheer, difficulty or sorrow. All of them are vividly
recorded by the titles in the pink bags.
